William Summers selected as North West Norfolk MP candidate

January 15th, 2010

William SummersLocal campaigner William Summers has been selected as the Liberal Democrat candidate to fight the 2010 general election in North West Norfolk.

William, from Brancaster Staithe, is now set to take on the local Tory MP at the ballot box after being chosen by local party members.

William Summers already has experience of working in Westminster, after spending two years as a parliamentary researcher for North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb. He now works as a campaigner for better and more affordable housing in rural areas.

The Liberal Democrats are set to focus their election campaign on local services, particularly the under-threat day centres across West Norfolk.

Commenting on his selection, William Summers said:

“I’m thrilled to have been selected as the local Liberal Democrat candidate for the next general election. My priority is to campaign for better local services and make sure everybody living in West Norfolk is getting a fair deal.”

“In particular I will be challenging unjust Tory cutbacks such as the withdrawal of funding from day centres for older people. The amount of money involved is miniscule in the wide scheme of things, but the closure of local day centres will be a real tragedy for many users.”

“I was as outraged as anyone about the MPs’ expenses scandal, and equally dismayed our current MP voted against expenses reform when he had the chance. We have a real opportunity in 2010 to change politics for the better by electing more MPs in touch with the real world.”

“I am committed to being an accessible and open local MP, and have already published five key pledges on my website laying out the standards I will stick to if elected to Parliament.”
