William Summers has blasted the inflation busting rise in parking fees announced by the Tory controlled borough council.
Writing in the Lynn News, William said:
“The Lynn News printed two full pages listing the council’s inflation busting rises in car parking charges across the borough.
“With West Norfolk still reeling from the recession, I seriously question both the fairness and the wisdom of raising parking fees by over 10%. Not only is this a further hit on the pockets of local residents, but it is also a knock to businesses in Lynn town centre as customers are priced away.
“Last October a report by the local Liberal Democrats highlighted how the money collected in West Norfolk car parks had gone up a whopping 28% from the year before, and cash from parking fines had almost doubled.
“I realise Tory councillors are looking for ways to plug their budget shortfall, but raising money through the back door by hiking up fees for motorists – many of whom have no other transport options – is short sighted, unjust, and a threat to the economic recovery of the area.”
